This past weekend in Reading was the definition of who we are as a community. From Saturdays events organized by Alan and Ace, Jeanne and the Rotary as well as countless others to Sundays street faire by members of the Select Board and School Committee, all volunteering their time for the benefit of others. Both days went off safely and successfully thanks to the RPD, Fire and DPW as well as other members of town staff and the community. In terms of the dunk tank, we raised $1186 that turned into $1326 which was dropped off yesterday to Reading Cooperative Bank. I then received a message that someone would be rounding that up to $2000 by generously donating $674 directly to the 625 Main Street Fund. The MVP of the event though was Parker principal Ricki Shankland that had a sea of kids lined up 10 minutes before her timeslot. I couldn’t believe how many there were and some of them threw faster than I could. A little bit of normalcy in a time of uncertainty. An amazing job by all. This is Reading, this is who we are.
